Clinical and laboratory profile of Expanded Dengue Syndrome: experience of 2019 outbreak from Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is afflicted with periodic dengue outbreak every few years and one of the worst upsurges was recorded in 2019 during which there was an increasing trend of dengue with unusual symptoms which were not so common before. This study aims to describe the experience of three tertiary care centres of Dhaka regarding the clinical and laboratory, hospital outcome and management profile of the Expanded Dengue Syndrome (EDS) cases admitted from the 2019 outbreak.

Assessment of larval and pupal indices of dengue mosquito vectors in a North-Eastern state of Tripura, India.

Dengue is a major vector-borne disease having public health importance. It is caused by Dengue Virus (DENV) and is transmitted by mosquitoes of Aedes species. With the unavailability of a vaccine, vector control remains the only preventive measure for dengue. Studies have already been conducted to establish the presence of dengue vectors in the north-eastern states of India. However, limited studies have been conducted in Tripura state. In the present study we aimed to identify the preferred breeding habitats of dengue vectors in the state.

Seroprevalence study of dengue-malaria coinfection in an East-Cameroonian public hospital: A comparison between malarial and non-malarial groups.

Recent research in Cameroon reported several occurrences of dengue in urban settings, but concurrent dengue-malaria infection has received less attention, particularly in the East region.

Isolation and molecular detection of dengue and chikungunya virus from field-collected adult mosquitoes in Kelantan, Malaysia.

Dengue and chikungunya infections are one of the major health problems that have plagued the human population globally. All dengue virus (DENV) serotypes circulate within Malaysia with particular serotypes dominating in different years/outbreaks. In the state of Kelantan, an increasing number of DENV and chikungunya virus (CHIKV) new cases have been reported, including several deaths. This study aimed to isolate and detect these arboviruses from adult mosquitoes in Kelantan.

Study of the clinical manifestations and risk factors in people affected during the first Kyasanur Forest Disease outbreak in Goa, India: A mixed method study.

Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) is a tick-borne, zoonotic viral hemorrhagic fever, previously known to be endemic to the state of Karnataka, India. The first outbreak of KFD in Goa state was reported in the Sattari taluka, in North Goa in 2015. This study aimed to investigate the outbreak and report the clinical manifestations and risk factors in people diagnosed with KFD.

Kenya must wake up to the threat of cryptic Anopheles species and their impact on residual malaria transmission.

Malaria remains a major health problem in Kenya despite the huge efforts put in place to control it. The non-relenting malaria threat has partly been attributed to residual malaria transmission driven by vectors that cannot effectively be controlled by the two popularly applied control methods: long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs) and indoor residual spraying (IRS). Reports indicate that residual transmission is widely spread in areas where malaria is endemic. This could mean that the World Health Organization's vision of a world free of malaria remains a mirage as elimination and prevention of re-establishment of malaria are rendered unachievable. Amongst the major contributors to residual malaria transmission are cryptic rare species, species of mosquitoes that are morphologically indistinguishable, but isolated genetically, that have not been the focus of malaria control programs. Recent studies have reported extensive new Anopheles cryptic species believed to be involved in malaria transmission in Kenya. This underscores the need to understand these malaria vector species, their distribution and bionomics and their impact on malaria transmission. This article discusses reports of these cryptic species, their importance to malaria transmission, especially in the arid and semi-arid areas, and what can be done to mitigate the situation.

Digital Dietary Behaviors in Individuals With Depression: Real-World Behavioral Observation.

Depression is often accompanied by changes in behavior, including dietary behaviors. The relationship between dietary behaviors and depression has been widely studied, yet previous research has relied on self-reported data which is subject to recall bias. Electronic device-based behavioral monitoring offers the potential for objective, real-time data collection of a large amount of continuous, long-term behavior data in naturalistic settings.
